Fruitful Food Security Fundraiser!

All has been well and wonderful at the Rooted Refuge as we’re settling in here for our second month in Ridgewood. We’re prepping lots of great acu + TCM info to share with you, and are super excited to expand upon our Resource Redistribution program this month - to keep up to date, you can follow us at @therootedrefuge.

Most importantly, we wanted to share an essential cause that needs some support this month. Food security has become unstable for many folks lately, as resources for pantries have dipped quite low throughout the city. Distributors are working hard to find new sources of food, and are in urgent need of more volunteers for processing. Because of these difficult realities, we’re using December’s fundraiser to highlight The Hungry Monk Rescue Truck/Monkworx, a community response team that combats food insecurity and provides safe space and emergency housing for folks who are experiencing homelessness in Ridgewood, Bushwick, Elmhurst and beyond. The Hungry Monk crew has been working tirelessly throughout the year to distribute resources to food pantries (they rescued over 250,000 lbs of food during the first month of COVID alone!), and have continued to work 6+ days a week to ensure that none of our neighbors go hungry.

Please join us (by appointment only) on Monday, December 7th for our next monthly fundraiser, where all proceeds from treatments will go to The Hungry Monk Rescue Truck/Monkworx. If you’d like to contribute to their work but are unable to make it by on that date, please feel free to donate through their site. We love that Hungry Monk’s values are “think small, make a big impact” - this is truly the cornerstone of how every community organization should function.

 Warmly,

 Dr. Stephanie Dixon
